Yankees Starters Have Been Dominant with Only Two Earned Runs Allowed in Last Six Games

Yankees’ Rotation Shines as Starters Dominate Over the Past Week

The Yankees’ rotation has been a consistent strength throughout the season, but their performance over the past week has been exceptional. After Luis Gil’s impressive 14-strikeout, six-inning outing in Saturday’s 6-1 victory against the White Sox, Yankees starters have allowed just two earned runs in their last six games and 39 innings. This remarkable streak equates to an ERA of 0.46, showcasing the rotation’s dominance.

Juan Soto, an opposing player from the Nationals, expressed his admiration for the Yankees’ rotation, highlighting their crucial role in the team’s success. Soto noted that the starters have been instrumental in guiding the team and supporting the offense, both during good and bad offensive performances. Their consistency and contributions on a daily basis have played a significant part in the Yankees’ position at the top of their division.

In their recent six-game stretch, featuring starts from Gil, Nestor Cortes, Clarke Schmidt, Marcus Stroman, and Carlos Rodon, Yankees starters have consistently pitched at least six innings while allowing only three runs collectively. This achievement is a rarity in franchise history, having only occurred three times before. The last time Yankees starters achieved this feat was in 1984 when Ron Guidry, Phil Niekro, Ray Fontenot, and Shane Rawley accomplished it.

Catcher Jose Trevino praised the starting rotation’s performance, emphasizing their impressive pitching displays. Trevino noted that all the starters are highly motivated and throwing exceptionally well at the moment. Their ability to consistently execute pitches has been a key factor in the Yankees’ recent success.

Furthermore, Trevino himself contributed to the team’s victory with a line-drive home run in the second inning. This marked his fifth homer of the season, surpassing his total from last year in significantly fewer games. Trevino’s offensive performance has been outstanding lately, with a batting average of .348 and an OPS of .947 in his last 22 games.

Giancarlo Stanton continued his strong offensive display by homering for the second consecutive game and adding an RBI double. He has now hit home runs in three of his last four games. Another player making an impact is Anthony Volpe, who extended his hitting streak to 11 games with a double in the sixth inning. This streak represents a career high for Volpe.

On the injury front, DJ LeMahieu and Tommy Kahnle are scheduled to play rehab games with Double-A Somerset on Sunday. Kahnle’s appearance will be his fifth and potentially final rehab outing before rejoining the Yankees. As for LeMahieu, he will be playing his second game after a three-inning appearance on Friday.

In other news, the Yankees transferred Oswald Peraza’s rehab assignment to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre. Peraza, who has been recovering from a shoulder strain, began his rehab assignment with two games in Single-A Tampa before playing his last five with Double-A Somerset. Despite a batting average of .191 in his rehab stint, Peraza has shown power with three home runs and an impressive OPS of .989.

Once Peraza’s 20-day rehab clock expires, he is likely to be optioned to Triple-A unless any injuries occur within the big league club. This move will allow him to continue his development and potentially make an impact at the major league level in the future.

Overall, the Yankees’ rotation has been in top form recently, showcasing their dominance on the mound. The starters’ ability to consistently pitch deep into games while limiting opposing offenses has been a key factor in the team’s success. With players like Trevino, Stanton, Volpe, and others making significant contributions offensively, the Yankees are well-positioned for continued success.
