Driver Crashes Through Eye Care Storefront in Burlington

Officials report that no injuries were sustained after a driver crashed through the storefront of an eye care store in Burlington on Tuesday morning. The incident, captured by security cameras inside the All Eye Care Doctors shop, resulted in shattered glass and scattered merchandise.

Driver with Learner’s Permit Involved in Accident

The driver responsible for the crash was described as having a learner’s permit and was reportedly learning how to navigate when the incident occurred around 10:45 a.m. According to witnesses, the driver mistakenly pressed on the gas pedal instead of the brake, causing the SUV to plow through the store’s front entrance.

Witnesses Describe the Impact

Dr. Dzenana Idrizovic, the owner of the eye care store, described the crash as feeling like an earthquake due to its loud noise. She mentioned that the driver seemed to be attempting to brake but continued pressing on the gas pedal instead. Customers and optician Xavier Romero were present during the incident and likened it to a scene from an action-packed movie.

Extent of Damage and Store Closure

In addition to crashing into the eye care store, the vehicle also hit a shared wall with a neighboring business. The town’s building inspector assessed the damage and decided to temporarily close the store until repairs can be made. This unfortunate event occurred during the store’s busiest time of the year, causing significant inconvenience for both the owner and customers.

No Charges Planned

Burlington police stated that they do not intend to press charges against anyone involved in the crash as of Tuesday evening. The incident is being considered an accident, and insurance companies will handle any necessary compensation.
