Ukrainian model Sawa Pontyjska has filed a lawsuit against the organizers of the Cannes Film Festival, alleging that a security guard physically restrained her as she walked on the red carpet. Pontyjska, who was attending the event as a presenter for Fashion TV, claimed that the female security guard locked her in a “bear hug” at the top of the Palais des Festivals staircase. She stated that she tried to escape but was prevented from doing so. Eventually, she was forced out through the back door. Pontyjska has accused the festival of physical assault and psychological damage, seeking over $108,000 in damages.
Footage of the incident went viral on TikTok, garnering millions of views. In the video, the security guard can be seen attempting to drag Pontyjska inside while holding onto her. The model manages to break free momentarily before being grabbed by a man. The incident has caused Pontyjska acute pain and psychological trauma, according to her legal complaint.
Pontyjska expressed her shock and disappointment at the rudeness and unreasonable use of physical force she experienced on the red carpet. She claimed that Cannes allowed the guards to use physical force on guests. This is not the first time this security guard has been involved in controversy. She previously clashed with Kelly Rowland, Massiel Taveras, and K-pop star Yoona.
Kelly Rowland scolded the usher after being rushed off the red carpet, emphasizing her boundaries and insisting on being treated with respect. Massiel Taveras also had a similar experience and was caught on camera shoving the security guard.
While the festival has not officially addressed these incidents, a colleague of the security guard defended her actions, stating that she was under pressure to keep people moving on the carpet and ensure security and safety. The colleague emphasized that strict timetables and rules apply to celebrities as well.
