Trinity Co. Crews Provide Boat Rescues Amid Flooding as Montgomery Co. Implements Evacuation Measures

Trinity County and Montgomery County in Texas have been hit with heavy rainfall and subsequent flooding, leading to evacuation orders and rescue operations. The Trinity County Sheriff’s Office has been working tirelessly to evacuate residents in areas like the Deer Run subdivision and Doug Bell Road, with power being shut off in those regions. The Trinity River Authority has also announced that the dam release at Lake Livingston has exceeded previous records.

In Trinity County, the flooding has reached unprecedented levels, with homes being affected for the first time in history. Many families have been forced to evacuate, and rescue boats have been deployed to ensure their safety. ABC13’s Shannon Ryan, who reported from Trinity County throughout the day, witnessed the efforts firsthand. She spoke to Sheriff Woody Wallace, who expressed his surprise at the extent of the flooding. Despite previous incidents of water reaching their yards, this time it managed to penetrate their houses.

One particular family in Trinity County shared their relief at being reunited with their loved ones after being rescued. They prioritized the safety of their children and grandchildren, ensuring they were taken to dry land. Meanwhile, in Montgomery County, communities near Lake Conroe and Porter have also been severely affected by the floods. Walker Street, located between FM 242 in Conroe and North 99 and the Grand Parkway, has become impassable due to the heavy rains.

Residents near Lake Conroe have vivid memories of the devastation caused by Hurricane Harvey. Determined not to repeat history, they have taken precautions by moving their vehicles and pets to higher grounds near the west fork of the San Jacinto River. They recalled how their home was destroyed during Hurricane Harvey when the dam was released without warning. They have since rebuilt their home on stilts to mitigate future damage.

Montgomery County Judge Mark Keough has issued voluntary evacuations for four flood-prone areas near the West Fork of the San Jacinto River. Residents in River Plantation, Mosswood, Woodloch, and the Idle Wilde/Idle Glen areas are encouraged to evacuate due to an expected rise in the river’s water levels. Shelters have been made available in The Woodlands, Cleveland, and Montgomery, with pet-friendly accommodations.

Harris County Judge Lina Hidalgo has gone a step further and issued a mandatory evacuation for individuals living on the East Fork of the San Jacinto River. The flooding has prompted a disaster declaration, and SkyeEye, a news helicopter, was dispatched to assess the situation from above.

As the flooding continues to wreak havoc in Trinity and Montgomery counties, residents are urged to prioritize their safety and heed evacuation orders. The local authorities are working diligently to rescue those in need and provide necessary support. Stay tuned for further updates on this ongoing situation.
