Tragic Plane Crash Claims Lives of Gospel Group The Nelons: Grammy-nominated Artists Killed in Alaska-bound Flight

Tragedy struck the Grammy-nominated gospel group The Nelons on Friday when three of its members were killed in a plane crash. The group’s management company, Gaither Music, shared the heartbreaking news on Facebook, revealing that Kelly Nelon Clark, her husband Jason Nelon Clark, and their daughter Amber Nelon Kistler were among the victims.

The Nelons, known for their powerful gospel music, were on their way to perform at the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska when the private plane they were traveling in crashed north of Gillette, Wyoming. Along with the Nelons, Amber’s husband Nathan Kistler, their assistant Melodi Hodges, the pilot Larry Haynie, and his wife Melissa also lost their lives in the tragic accident.

However, there was a glimmer of hope amidst the devastation. Kelly’s younger daughter, Autumn Nelon Streetman, was not on the plane at the time of the crash. She and her husband were notified of the incident upon reaching Seattle, where they had intended to join the rest of the group. Autumn and her husband will now return home to Kelly’s brother, Todd Nelon, and his wife Rhonda, to face the difficult days ahead.

In the face of this unimaginable loss, the Nelons and their extended family have called for prayers and support. Autumn shared a heartfelt statement on Instagram, expressing her gratitude for the prayers extended to her, her husband, and their soon-to-be-born baby boy. She also mentioned Jason’s parents, Dan and Linda Clark, as deserving of prayers during this trying time.

The Nelons’ management company, Gaither Music, also requested continued prayers, love, and support as the family navigates the coming days. The community has rallied around them, offering condolences and expressing their support during this difficult period.

The crash caused a wildland fire, according to Campbell County spokesperson Leslie Perkins. The Campbell County Fire Department worked tirelessly to suppress the fire. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is investigating the incident and has stated that the crash appeared to be a result of an autopilot issue during the flight. As investigators document the scene and examine the aircraft, more information will be uncovered.

This heartbreaking tragedy has not only shaken the gospel music community but also serves as a reminder of the fragility of life. The Nelons’ music has touched the hearts of many, and their loss will undoubtedly be deeply felt. In times like these, it is vital to come together and offer support to those affected by such devastating events.
