The Nelons, known for their powerful gospel music, were on their way to perform at the Gaither Homecoming Cruise to Alaska when the private plane they were traveling in crashed north of Gillette, Wyoming. Along with the Nelons, Amber’s husband Nathan Kistler, their assistant Melodi Hodges, the pilot Larry Haynie, and his wife Melissa also lost their lives in the tragic accident.

She and her husband were notified of the incident upon reaching Seattle, where they had intended to join the rest of the group.
