The New England Patriots’ Struggles Continue as Dave Portnoy Predicts High Draft Pick in 2025

The New England Patriots’ performance on Thursday night against the rival Jets left Barstool Sports founder and avid Patriots fan, Dave Portnoy, less than impressed. The game ended in a 24-3 victory for the Jets at MetLife Stadium, leaving Portnoy concerned about the Patriots’ future prospects. In fact, he went as far as predicting that the team may end up with one of the highest draft picks in the NFL next April.

Portnoy took to social media to express his disappointment, stating, “Pats may lose this game by 1000.” He didn’t stop there and further criticized the team by saying, “And with the 1st pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, the New England Patriots select Travis Hunter from Colorado.” Portnoy’s comments reflected his frustration with the Patriots’ lackluster performance.

The Patriots’ offense had a particularly difficult day, with starting quarterback Jacoby Brissett taking a beating from the Jets’ defense. He was sacked five times and struggled to find his rhythm. Brissett completed only 12 of 18 passes for a mere 98 yards. Portnoy pointed out that Brissett wasn’t being adequately compensated for the immense pressure he faced during the game.

In the midst of the Patriots’ offensive struggles, rookie Drake Maye made his NFL debut in the fourth quarter, relieving Brissett. Maye, the Patriots’ first-round draft pick, showed promise but also faced challenges, getting sacked four times. He completed four passes for 22 yards, giving a glimpse of his potential.

The loss to the Jets marked the Patriots’ second consecutive defeat after an impressive Week 1 victory over the Bengals. It was a disappointing outcome for a team that had high hopes for the season. The Jets, on the other hand, snapped a 15-game losing streak to the Patriots last year and now have a two-game winning streak against their rivals.

The Patriots will need to regroup and address their offensive struggles if they want to turn their season around. The performance of their quarterbacks, particularly Brissett and the potential of Maye, will be crucial in determining their success. With the loss, it’s clear that the Patriots have some significant challenges to overcome as they look ahead to future games.
