Tesla Recalls Over 11,000 Cybertrucks in the US for Wiper and Trim Issues

Tesla is facing another setback with its Cybertruck as the company announced a recall of over 11,000 vehicles in the United States. The recall is due to issues with the windshield wipers and exterior trim. This is not the first time Tesla has had to recall its Cybertruck, as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has reported four recalls for the 2024 model.

The windshield wiper recall affects all trucks built through June 6 and is due to the front windshield wiper motor controller failing due to excessive electrical current. Non-functioning wipers can be a safety hazard, especially in wet weather. Tesla will replace the wiper motor for affected vehicles.

In addition to the windshield wiper issue, Tesla is also recalling Cybertrucks because of problems with the trunk bed trim sail applique. The applique could have been improperly attached, leading to it becoming loose and potentially creating a road hazard. Tesla’s service team will apply an adhesion promoter and pressure sensitive tape or replace the missing trim free of charge for affected vehicles.

These recalls are significant as they cover more than 70 percent of all Cybertrucks produced. It is unclear how many Cybertrucks have been delivered to consumers, as Tesla has not disclosed this information in its quarterly deliveries and production report.

While recalls can be seen as a setback, it is worth noting that Tesla has a history of resolving issues through over-the-air software updates.
