Tesla Meets China’s Data Security Requirements: A Win-Win Result for Elon Musk
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, recently concluded his visit to Beijing with a major achievement – passing China’s data security requirements. This accomplishment paves the way for Tesla’s Model 3 and Model Y vehicles to be listed among the 76 models that comply with China’s stringent regulations. The China Association of Auto Manufacturers (CAAM) confirmed that these vehicles, produced by BYD, Ideal, Lotus, Hezhong New Energy, Tesla, and NIO, have met the “four compliance requirements for automotive data security.”
Musk’s visit also included crucial meetings with senior Chinese Communist Party (CCP) officials, including Premier Li Qiang. Discussions revolved around Tesla’s full self-driving (FSD) software and the permission to transfer data overseas. Premier Li praised Tesla’s development in China as a successful example of economic and trade cooperation between China and the United States. He expressed his country’s continued willingness to welcome foreign-funded firms.
In response, Musk conveyed his company’s eagerness to deepen cooperation with China to achieve more win-win results. However, despite its success in China, the FSD technology introduced by Tesla four years ago has yet to be made available to the Chinese market.
