Harris County Teen Fatally Shot Near Cypress Lakes High School

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas – A tragic incident unfolded near Cypress Lakes High School in Harris County, Texas, on Tuesday morning when a 17-year-old boy was fatally shot while waiting for his girlfriend to get out of school. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to the shooting, which occurred in the 5800 block of Brenwood Trails Lane.

Details of the Shooting

According to authorities, the victim, identified as Jake Mason, was waiting with a group of unidentified men when an argument broke out. During the altercation, one of the men shot Mason, resulting in his untimely death. The suspected shooter fled the scene on foot, while multiple individuals were taken into custody.

Search for the Suspect

Law enforcement officials are actively searching for the suspect, described as a Black man wearing all-black clothing. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office is urging anyone with information about the incident or the whereabouts of the suspect to come forward.

Response and Investigation

Following the shooting, authorities secured the scene and initiated an investigation. Witnesses at the scene were detained for questioning, and law enforcement officers are currently reviewing surveillance footage from the area to gather more evidence.

While some of the individuals detained are believed to be students at Cypress Lakes High School, it is unclear at this time if the incident is related to the school. The high school continued its regular schedule until dismissal on Tuesday, with parents able to pick up their children as usual.

Increased Security Measures

Due to the ongoing finals week at Cypress Lakes High School, there is already heightened law enforcement visibility on campus. Parents can expect to see increased security measures throughout the rest of the school week.

Cy-Fair ISD, the school district that includes Cypress Lakes High School, McFee Elementary, and Emery Elementary, initially implemented a “secure the building mode” in response to the incident. However, this measure has since been lifted.
