Teen Sought in NYC Flatiron District Stabbing of College Freshman

Police Searching for Teenager Connected to Manhattan Stabbing

Authorities are currently on the lookout for an 18-year-old named Thierno Bah who is believed to be involved in a fatal stabbing that occurred in Manhattan last week. The victim, Denzel Bimpey, a college freshman from the Bronx, tragically lost his life on December 15. The New York Police Department (NYPD) made the announcement on Friday.

Connection to the Crime

Although the police did not disclose the exact nature of Bah’s involvement in the crime, they have confirmed that he does not have any prior criminal record. Investigators suspect that the incident was a result of mistaken identity involving rival gang members.

The Tragic Incident

The incident took place around 10:40 p.m. at the corner of East 26th Street and Park Avenue South. Bimpey, who was traveling on a bus back to his home in the Bronx for Christmas, was attacked by alleged members of the Six Blocks of Harlem gang. According to Bimpey’s family, there had been a verbal altercation between him and his friends and the gang members during the bus ride from Syracuse. The gang members demanded to know which “block” Bimpey’s friends were associated with, to which they clarified that they were not part of any gang.

When the bus arrived in the Flatiron District, chaos ensued as commuters started gathering their belongings. One of the alleged gang members repeatedly slashed Bimpey, inflicting wounds to his chest, shoulder, and arm. Bimpey and his friends attempted to escape, but he collapsed from his injuries while his attacker fled the scene.

Investigation and Gang Feud

Bimpey was rushed to Bellevue Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny stated that the victim and his friends had no prior criminal history and were simply students who encountered a group that mistook them for rival gang members. The fatal dispute is believed to be connected to an ongoing feud between the Six Blocks of Harlem and the Bronx’s Nine Blocks gangs.

Ongoing Investigation

The NYPD currently has an unidentified person of interest in custody, but as of now, no charges have been filed. The incident adds to the rising number of stabbings and slashings in New York City this year, with a 6% increase compared to the previous year, totaling nearly 5,000 incidents across the five boroughs.
