Defying the Odds: Stage 4 Colon Cancer Patient Runs Houston Half Marathon

HOUSTON, Texas – Orly Fuerst, a stage 4 colon cancer patient, is defying all odds by participating in the Aramco Houston Half Marathon alongside her daughter, Abrielle.

A Fierce Determination

“She is the fiercest woman I have ever met,” Abrielle shared. Despite doctors’ predictions that she would never run again, Orly proved them wrong. “Watch me run a half marathon next year,” she confidently declared.

A Remarkable Journey

Diagnosed in July 2022, Orly, a teacher at Torah Girls Academy, was given a prognosis of 6-9 months. However, her spirit and determination have not wavered. Cancer may have affected her body, but it couldn’t take away her sense of self and power. “I get a sense of me and a sense of power,” Orly said.

Running for a Cause

In addition to their personal triumph, Orly and Abrielle are using this marathon as an opportunity to raise funds and awareness for the American Cancer Society. Their participation in the race serves a greater cause, supporting others fighting against cancer.
