A man suspected of stealing a Banksy artwork depicting three military drones on a stop sign in London has been arrested. The man, who is in his 20s, was taken into custody on suspicion of theft and criminal damage. Investigations are currently ongoing, and he will remain in custody.

The unidentified man and an accomplice were captured on camera using bolt cutters to remove the anti-war artwork from a traffic post in the Peckham district. The incident occurred less than an hour after Banksy had unveiled the piece. One of the men was seen balancing on top of a rented bike to reach the sign while the other held the bike steady.

Witnesses reported shouting at the thieves to stop as the man who cut the sign free quickly ran off with it in his hand. The incident took place shortly after Banksy had shared the location of his latest artwork on Instagram.

Jasmine Ali, deputy leader of the local borough council, called for the stolen artwork to be returned. She emphasized the importance of everyone in the community being able to enjoy Banksy’s brilliant work. The stolen stop sign has since been replaced by officials.

Banksy’s artwork is highly sought after on the resale market. In 2018, a semi-shredded piece by the artist fetched a staggering $25 million at an auction. The stolen artwork featuring military drones is expected to have significant value as well.
