Stellantis to Release All-Electric Fiat 500e in the U.S. arketM

The Resurrection of the Fiat 500e

Stellantis is bringing back the all-electric Fiat 500e for the U.S. market as part of its efforts to comply with stricter fuel economy regulations. The small city car is set to be released as a special edition “(500e)RED” model in early 2024, with a starting price of $34,095. However, it remains uncertain whether the vehicle will qualify for federal EV subsidies or tax credits under the Inflation Reduction Act.

Stellantis’ First All-Electric Vehicle in the U.S.

The Fiat 500e will be Stellantis’ first all-electric vehicle offered in the U.S. since the merger between Fiat Chrysler and the French PSA Group in 2021. While the automaker currently offers several plug-in hybrid EVs, it has plans to introduce more all-electric models in the coming years.

Lightweight Design with Moderate Performance

With a weight of just over 3,000 pounds, the Fiat 500e is expected to be the lightest all-electric vehicle in its segment. However, it may offer lower range and power compared to other EVs on the market. The vehicle, which will be imported from Italy, features 162 foot pounds of torque, an estimated range of 149 miles, and a 0 to 60 mph time of 8.5 seconds. While these performance figures are better than some EVs, they are still lower than the less-expensive Chevrolet Bolt, for example.

A Collaboration for a Cause

The “(500e)RED” model is a collaboration between Stellantis, (RED) — a charity cofounded by U2 frontman Bono to fight AIDS — and the ONE Campaign, a nonprofit focused on eradicating poverty and preventable diseases. This partnership aims to raise awareness and support for these important causes.

Availability and Future Models

The Fiat 500e will initially be available as a special edition model, but Stellantis has plans to offer additional 500e models at Fiat dealerships in the future. This move demonstrates the automaker’s commitment to expanding its electric vehicle lineup and meeting the growing demand for sustainable transportation options.

Overall, the reintroduction of the Fiat 500e showcases Stellantis’ dedication to electrification and its response to stricter fuel economy regulations. With its lightweight design and collaboration for a cause, the Fiat 500e offers a unique option for environmentally conscious consumers in the U.S. market.
