Spencer Jones Shines with Two Home Runs in Impressive Yankees’ Spring Breakout Game

The New York Yankees put on an impressive display in their Spring Breakout game against the Blue Jays’ prospects. The game, created to showcase the game’s stars of tomorrow, did not disappoint, especially for Yankees’ No. 2 prospect, Spencer Jones.

Jones, a lefty swinger who has drawn comparisons to Aaron Judge, showed his ability to rise to the occasion by belting two home runs in the game. The first came in the first inning when he drilled a slider from Blue Jays prospect Adam Macko deep into right-center for a 399-foot bomb. This set the tone for what would be a rout for the Yankees.

But Jones wasn’t done yet. In the third inning, he showcased his excellent speed by turning a chopper up the middle into an infield single. And for his grand finale, Jones demolished a fifth-inning fastball from Fernando Perez, launching it 427 feet to center field. The drive cleared a raised pitch clock and solidified Jones as the star of the game.

“It was really cool that MLB provided a platform for a lot of us guys to get out here and play on television,” Jones said after the game. “I think it was just a fun baseball game. We were all excited about it.”

Jones has been making waves throughout spring training, impressing with his performance at the plate. In 11 games this spring, he has gone 7-for-17 with a homer, a double, three walks, and no strikeouts, resulting in an impressive 1.171 OPS.

While it may be unlikely for Jones to find himself in the major league spotlight this season, his continued impressive performance is turning heads. The 22-year-old California native and Vanderbilt product played 17 games last season with Double-A Somerset and is expected to begin this season there as well.

Other notable performances from the game include Brock Selvidge, the Yankees’ No. 11 prospect, who pitched four scoreless innings, allowing only one hit and striking out eight. Selvidge, who touched High-A Hudson Valley last season, expressed his gratitude for having his parents in the stands, stating that their presence gave him an extra boost of adrenaline and comfort.

In addition, T.J. Rumfield, a first baseman who reached Double-A Somerset last season, blasted a deep home run to right-center. Prospect Henry Lalane struck out three and allowed only one hit in two scoreless innings. And infielder Caleb Durbin, who played 47 games with Somerset last season, had a solid night at the plate, going 2-for-3 with a single, stolen base, and a double.

Overall, the Yankees’ Spring Breakout game provided an exciting platform for young prospects to showcase their talent. Spencer Jones stole the show with his impressive display of power and speed, leaving fans eager to see what he will accomplish in the future. While it may be some time before he reaches the major leagues, Jones has proven that he has what it takes to become a star in the game of baseball.
