Winterville, NC— The 18-year-old stabbed at South Central High School last Friday night has been identified as a student, according to the Greenville police. The victim, Deandre Devon Williams of Greenville, was involved in an altercation outside the gymnasium during the South Central vs. J.H. Rose girls basketball game.

Details of the Incident

According to officials, Williams and another man engaged in a physical altercation in the school parking lot. During the fight, a third individual approached Williams and stabbed him once. The suspect fled the scene immediately after the incident.

Williams was quickly transported to ECU Health with significant injuries, but he is expected to make a full recovery. The police have stated that this incident was targeted and does not pose a threat to the community. They have also expressed doubt that it was gang-related.

Impact on Basketball Game

As a result of the incident, the South Central vs. J.H. Rose boys basketball game, scheduled for that night, was postponed. The game has been rescheduled to take place on Monday at 5 p.m. at South Central.
