New Dash Cam Video Shows Terrifying Moment of Wrong-Way Crash on Route 2
On a Wednesday afternoon in Gardner, Massachusetts, a retired state trooper’s SUV captured a shocking incident on its dash cam. The video, taken around 2:30 p.m., shows a car speeding down Route 2 in the wrong direction. Just two minutes later, the 80-year-old wrong-way driver crashed into another vehicle.
According to Gardner Fire Department Captain Craig Osowski, the collision was “kind of head-on, on an angle.” The dash cam video, which was obtained from the retired state trooper’s SUV, provides a clear view of the dangerous situation. Emergency responders quickly arrived at the scene after the video was taken.
When Osowski and his team arrived at the crash site, they were met with a scene of two badly damaged cars. “When I walked up to the first car, I expected to find somebody trapped and severely hurt,” Osowski recalled. “But she was up talking to me and she walked out of the car.” Surprisingly, both drivers only suffered minor injuries in the accident.
Osowski, who has responded to numerous accidents on the highway, emphasized the hazardous nature of such incidents. “The highway is the most dangerous place that we work,” he stated. “Every time we go up there, it is usually significant accidents. But, for some reason, yesterday just worked out for them and they were both minor injuries.”
Both drivers were transported to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. State police towed both vehicles off the highway and cleared the scene by 3:15 p.m. As of Thursday, the crash and any potential charges remained under investigation.
While the authorities continued their work, Captain Osowski took the opportunity to remind drivers about the importance of road safety. “Know your surroundings,” he advised. “Try to always look ahead. Looking ahead would help see this car coming at you.”
