Selma Blair’s Service Dog Helps Her Remember to Take Medication

Selma Blair, the actress, recently revealed how her service dog, Scout, helps her remember to take her Multiple Sclerosis (MS) medication. Speaking at Chanel’s Tribeca Festival Women’s Luncheon, Blair explained that Scout gives her a little nibble on her nose as a reminder because she can get a little spastic and easily distracted. Blair has owned Scout for nearly three years, and initially, the dog assisted her with her balance and mobility during the earlier days of her MS diagnosis.

Blair’s neurologist helped in selecting Scout as her service dog and trained him to support her specific needs. The actress also mentioned that she is doing well health-wise since undergoing a bone marrow transplant a few years ago. She stated that it took a long time to recover, but now she can walk without assistance and even wear heels.

Blair expressed that everyone’s experience with MS is different, but she has always been comfortable wearing heels due to her foot’s flexibility. She explained that heels provide a fixed foot position, making it easier for her to maintain balance. Blair attended the starry luncheon at The Greenwich Hotel Courtyard, where the Through Her Lens Program was celebrated. This program aims to promote emerging and independent female voices in filmmaking.

In 2018, Blair publicly announced her MS diagnosis, revealing that she experiences symptoms such as dropping things, foggy memory, and difficulty with her left side. Despite these challenges, Blair remains positive and continues to pursue her passions. She even expressed openness to dating again after her diagnosis, acknowledging the positive impact love can have on one’s spirit.

Blair’s journey with MS has been an inspiration to many, and she continues to advocate for awareness and understanding of the disease. Through her honesty and resilience, she has become a role model for those facing similar health struggles. Blair’s story serves as a reminder that with the right support and determination, individuals can overcome obstacles and live fulfilling lives.
