Russian Officials Vow Revenge for Deadly Airstrikes in Ukraine
Russian officials have pledged to seek revenge against Ukraine following a series of airstrikes that resulted in the deaths of 14 people and left dozens wounded. The Kremlin has called for a meeting of the UN Security Council, accusing Ukraine of deliberately targeting civilians in the city of Belgorod using drones and missiles. Russia has vowed that this attack will not go unpunished.
Ukraine Strikes Back
The airstrikes occurred just a day after Ukraine claimed to have shot down numerous Russian missiles in nearly 120 cities and villages, resulting in 39 deaths and 159 injuries. Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky announced these casualties on Saturday. Belgorod, which is located approximately 19 miles from the Ukrainian border, has been repeatedly targeted by what Moscow claims to be indiscriminate shelling from Ukrainian military forces.
Casualties and Accusations
According to Russia’s emergency services, the airstrikes in Belgorod claimed the lives of two children and 12 adults. Russia’s Foreign Ministry has accused the US and Britain of inciting the Ukrainian government to carry out terrorist actions, blaming Western arms deliveries to Ukraine for escalating the conflict.
Ongoing Search and Destruction
In Ukraine, emergency crews are continuing to search through the wreckage of a maternity hospital and a residential building following Russia’s launch of over 150 missiles and drones on Friday.
