Rockport house fire injures police officer and two others

Rockport Police Officer and Two Others Hospitalized After House Fire

ROCKPORT, MASS. – A house fire in Rockport on Wednesday resulted in a police officer and two residents being taken to the hospital, according to officials. The fire occurred at a home on Phillips Avenue and caused significant damage to the second floor.

Although firefighters had managed to extinguish the flames by around 9 p.m., there was still a strong emergency presence in the area. The two individuals who were hospitalized, along with the police officer, were residents of the affected home. No further details about their injuries were provided, but officials stated that they were admitted to the hospital as a precautionary measure.

Fire crews worked for approximately one hour to bring the fire under control. Throughout their efforts, they had to contend with freezing temperatures, coastal winds, and icy ground conditions. Rockport Assistant Fire Chief Douglas Anderson commented on the challenging circumstances, saying, “It’s incredibly difficult to fight a fire in these conditions, especially when it’s right by the water with strong winds.”

Upon assessing the situation, Anderson called for additional crews by issuing a third alarm. Local Department of Public Works (DPW) teams also responded to the scene, spreading salt and sand to prevent further ice buildup as water was sprayed around the area.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation as of Wednesday night.
