Republican Governors Unveil Plan to Unleash American Energy and Call on President Biden to Protect U.S. Energy Security

Republican governors gathered at the PBF Energy Chalmette Refinery in Louisiana to unveil their plan to “unleash American energy” and called on President Joe Biden to protect U.S. energy security. Led by Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry, the governors expressed their concerns about the Biden administration’s actions against the oil and natural gas industry, which they believe have contributed to rising inflation and increased costs for everyday goods.

Governor Landry emphasized the importance of American energy in lifting people out of poverty globally and asserted that governors understand the needs of Americans better than anyone else. He blamed the federal government for the current inflation crisis, stating that if it eased its regulations on American energy, the cost of everyday goods could be lowered.

Governor Landry listed several actions taken by President Biden that he deemed detrimental to the industry, such as pausing new oil and gas leases, canceling the Keystone XL pipeline, favoring foreign energy over domestic energy, and implementing agency rules and regulations that hurt Americans’ pockets. The governors called on President Biden to prioritize U.S. energy security.

Other Republican governors, including Mike Dunleavy of Alaska, Brian Kemp of Georgia, Chris Sununu of New Hampshire, Doug Burgum of North Dakota, Kevin Stitt of Oklahoma, and Glenn Youngkin of Virginia, joined Governor Landry in supporting an “all-of-the-above” approach to American energy production. They believe that this approach, which is already being implemented in Republican-led states like Oklahoma, can help alleviate rising costs for Americans.

Governor Stitt highlighted Oklahoma’s success in providing affordable and reliable energy through its diverse energy production methods. The state is one of the largest producers of crude oil and natural gas, as well as wind-generated electricity. Stitt emphasized the need for a balanced approach to energy production that ensures affordability and reliability.

Governor Burgum emphasized that governors work for all Americans, regardless of party affiliation. He expressed concern for those struggling to afford gas and food, blaming the Biden administration’s policies for the increased financial burden. He criticized the notion that these policies are beneficial for the environment, stating that they are based on a false premise.

The governors also highlighted the potential for increased oil production in the U.S. Currently producing around 13 million barrels a day, they believe the country could reach 15 to 20 million barrels a day with the right policies in place. This would not only lead to energy independence but also allow the U.S. to sell oil to its allies instead of relying on imports from adversaries.

The governors are part of a larger coalition of 21 governors who have called on President Biden to pursue an “all-of-the-above” energy approach that promotes homegrown energy rather than policies that benefit China. Their proposed solutions include ending regulatory overreach, increasing lease sales for all forms of energy production, expediting drilling permits, and reversing certain EPA rules.

In conclusion, Republican governors are urging President Biden to prioritize American energy and protect U.S. energy security. They believe that by unleashing American energy potential and adopting an “all-of-the-above” approach, the country can alleviate rising costs, achieve energy independence, and support economic growth.
