Remembering Allen Aldridge: Former NFL Player and Coach of Fort Bend Bush High School Dies at 52

Former NFL player and coach Allen Aldridge has passed away at the age of 52, according to an announcement made by Fort Bend ISD’s George Bush High School. Aldridge, who was a high-round draft pick out of the University of Houston, had a successful career in the NFL before transitioning into coaching.

The University of Houston also expressed their condolences and paid tribute to Aldridge, referring to him as a decorated Cougar and former NFL standout. Aldridge’s impact extended beyond the football field, as he was known for his dedication to developing his players into young men of integrity and pride.

During his 20 years of coaching at Bush High School, Aldridge made a positive impact on the lives of thousands of young men and women. He lived by the motto of exemplifying class and character in all aspects of life, a value he learned as a student at Willowridge High School in Fort Bend ISD. His presence and influence as a servant leader, mentor, and teacher were felt by all at George Bush High.

Aldridge’s football career began when he was drafted by the Denver Broncos in the second round of the 1994 NFL draft. Standing at 6-foot-1-inch and weighing 254 pounds, he played as a linebacker and started 45 games during his four seasons with the Broncos. After his time in Denver, Aldridge signed with the Detroit Lions, where he played from 1998 to 2001. He started 59 games with the Lions and also developed his skills as a long snapper on punt coverage.

In 2002, Aldridge joined the Houston Texans before their inaugural season, but he did not see any playing time in the regular season. Unfortunately, he never played another NFL snap again. However, this setback did not deter Aldridge from pursuing his passion for coaching and making a difference in the lives of young athletes.

One of his current players at Bush High School, Cameron Hopes, spoke highly of Aldridge’s impact on the team. Hopes described him as a passionate coach who had a wealth of knowledge both on and off the field. Aldridge served as a father figure to the players and was dedicated to molding them from boys to men. His motto of “Class & Character” was evident in his interactions with everyone, including his own family.

Details about Aldridge’s funeral and memorial services have not been disclosed at this time. His passing is a loss not only for the football community but also for the countless individuals whose lives he touched through his coaching and mentorship. Aldridge’s legacy will live on through the positive impact he made on the young athletes he coached and the values he instilled in them.
