Man Sentenced to Seven Years in Jail for Aggravated Assault in Rapid City

A 34-year-old man from Rapid City has been sentenced to seven years in jail for aggravated assault. The incident took place during the summer of last year when the man pointed a gun at another individual and discharged it four times into the air.

Charges and Grand Jury Indictment

The charges against Blaze Galles were brought on January 11 by a grand jury in Pennington County. He faced four counts of discharge of a handgun from a motor vehicle as well as aggravated assault. The incident occurred on August 4th, 2022.

Prosecutor’s Statement

Brandy Rhead, a deputy state’s attorney for Pennington County, described Galles’ conduct as “violent, reckless, and incredibly dangerous.” She stated that Galles portrayed himself as a vigilante, but the woman for whom he was allegedly acting told the police that he was out of control throughout the entire incident.

Plea Agreement and Dismissal of Charges

On October 16, Galles entered into a plea agreement with the state. He admitted to committing the crime of aggravated assault. As part of the agreement, Galles agreed to pay $449 to Fleet Farm and $500 to Boot Barn. In return, the state agreed to dismiss the remaining counts and two petty theft cases that Galles was facing.

This sentence serves as a reminder that acts of violence and reckless behavior will not be tolerated in our community. The justice system has taken appropriate action to ensure the safety and well-being of our residents.
