Price of NYC home where Taylor Swift shot her ‘1989’ Polaroids reduced once again

Taylor Swift’s iconic “1989” Polaroids were shot inside a stunning Manhattan duplex that is now struggling to find a buyer. The duplex, located at 874 Broadway in the Flatiron district, has seen its price reduced once again to $2.85 million, a significant drop from its original asking price of $6.25 million in 2017.

The unit is situated in the MacIntyre Building, an architecturally significant Romanesque-revival structure dating back to 1892. It is owned by billionaire heiress Sarah Johnson, daughter of Charles Johnson, a prominent financier and majority owner of the San Francisco Giants. The duplex is a combination of two units, one of which was formerly owned by film director Tannaz Hazemi, who assisted Swift during her “1989” shoot.

Inside the duplex, around 65 Polaroids were captured for Swift’s album, out of a total of 464. The floor where Swift’s photos were taken has remained mostly untouched, preserving the essence of her albums “1989” and “1989 (Taylor’s Version).” The handwritten words, “If you leave me, I’m still coming with you,” as seen in the Polaroids, are still scrawled on the inside of the door, adding to the apartment’s unique charm.

The duplex features an open layout with giant window walls that flood the space with natural light. It also boasts an impressive custom steel-and-glass staircase partially wrapped in tree branches, giving it a whimsical touch. The residence offers breathtaking views of Union Square through its 18 oversized windows.

Design details include a copper tub that steals the show in one of the bathrooms, a rolling library ladder leading to a loft-like storage space, and a former exposed elevator shaft encased in glass. The kitchen is equipped with cabinets made of reclaimed chestnut and a vintage Tiffany-blue fridge, adding a touch of nostalgia to the space.

The main bedroom in the duplex features a custom platform bed, a walk-in closet, and an ensuite bath. Additionally, there is a windowed home office that could easily be converted into a fourth bedroom if needed. The renovation of the duplex took a year to complete, resulting in a space that seamlessly combines modern luxury with historical charm.

Despite its undeniable appeal, potential buyers have been deterred by the high maintenance costs, which amount to a hefty $8,568 per month. However, real estate professionals note that buyers are enamored with the apartment and its unique features.

Listing broker Shane Boyle describes the duplex as “almost like two separate apartments,” highlighting its versatility and potential for customization. With its prime location, architectural significance, and ties to Taylor Swift’s iconic “1989” era, this Manhattan duplex is undoubtedly a one-of-a-kind gem waiting for the right owner to appreciate its timeless charm.
