Police report: 5 and 6-year-old children witness father’s fatal shooting during home invasion in SW Houston

Tragic Home Invasion Shakes Southwest Houston Community

In a horrifying incident that unfolded early Sunday morning, a man was shot to death in front of his wife and two young children during a home invasion in the southwest Houston neighborhood. According to officials, the suspects, who are still at large, broke into the victim’s residence on Castlecreek Lane around 2:30 a.m. The commotion caused by their forced entry caught the attention of the victim, who bravely tried to protect his family.

The police report indicates that the suspects did not seem to have any intention of theft, as nothing was reported missing from the scene. Instead, their motive appears to have been solely to cause harm and instill fear. The victim, realizing the danger his family was in, quickly instructed his wife to seek shelter in their bedroom, while he confronted the intruders.

Tragically, as the victim stood up to confront the assailants, one of them opened fire, fatally shooting him in the hallway. The man’s stepdaughter, who was not present during the incident, revealed in an interview with ABC13 that the victim’s 5-year-old daughter and 6-year-old son witnessed their father being shot. This harrowing event will undoubtedly leave a lasting impact on these young children.

Family members who arrived at the scene later in the day declined to speak on camera but emphasized that the victim was a peaceful individual who never caused trouble for anyone. They reassured the community that the victim’s wife and children were physically unharmed but understandably traumatized by the events they had witnessed.

Detective David Higgs of the Houston Police Department (HPD) expressed his condolences for the family and condemned the senseless violence. He revealed that multiple shell casings from two different guns were found at the scene, indicating that multiple suspects were involved in this heinous act. However, he assured residents that this was an isolated incident and that there is no reason for others in the area to be concerned for their safety.

As the investigation continues, HPD is urging anyone who may have seen suspicious individuals or vehicles in the area at the time to come forward and provide any information that may aid in apprehending the suspects. Detectives from the Homicide Division can be reached directly at 713-308-3600, or anonymous tips can be submitted to Crime Stoppers at (713) 222-TIPS.

This tragic home invasion has shaken the tight-knit community of southwest Houston, reminding residents of the importance of vigilance and security measures. As the victim’s family mourns their devastating loss, the community stands in solidarity, pledging to support and protect one another during these troubling times.
