Over 20,000 Pounds of Beef Products Recalled Due to Improper Inspection, USDA Warns

Improperly Inspected Beef Products Recalled in the United States

In a recent announcement, the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) revealed that over 20,000 pounds of beef products have been recalled due to improper inspection. The California-based importer, South American Meat Inc., initiated the recall after it was discovered that the items were not presented for reinspection to the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) upon entry from Uruguay.

The beef products, which were imported from Uruguay around March 17, were subsequently distributed to various locations in Arizona, California, Oregon, and Washington. While there have been no reports of adverse reactions from consuming these products, FSIS has expressed concern that some of them may already be in the freezers of consumers, distributors, restaurants, or retailers.

To ensure public safety, FSIS strongly advises individuals and entities who have purchased these products not to consume or serve them. Instead, they should be thrown away or returned to the place of purchase. Additionally, consumers who are worried about potential adverse reactions should contact or visit their healthcare providers.

The recall specifically affects various weight cardboard cases labeled as “Frigorífico Casa Blanca S.A.” The products are individually vacuum-sealed and display the name “FRICASA.” The affected items include:

1. “Frigorífico Casa Blanca S.A. AGUJA CHUCK ROLL”
2. “Frigorífico Casa Blanca S.A. ASADO SIN HUESO SHORT RIB”
3. “Frigorífico Casa Blanca S.A. BIFE ANCHO CUBE ROLL”
4. “Frigorífico Casa Blanca S.A. BIFE ANGOSTO STRIPLOIN”
5. “Frigorífico Casa Blanca S.A. BIFE GRANDE DE VACÍO FLAP MEAT”
6. “Frigorífico Casa Blanca S.A. CARNAZA DE PALETA SHOULDER CLOD”
7. “Frigorífico Casa Blanca S.A. LOMO TENDERLOIN”
8. “Frigorífico Casa Blanca S.A. MARUCHA OYSTER BLADE”
9. “Frigorífico Casa Blanca S.A. PECHO BRISKET”

These products can be identified by the case code JP0001 to JP0009, respectively. Furthermore, the packaging bears the Uruguay establishment number “58.”

In case of any questions or concerns regarding the recall, individuals can reach out to the USDA Meat and Poultry Hotline at 888-674-6854 or contact Tim Yu, the accountant and logistics director of South American Meat Inc., at 310-720-5258.

Ensuring the safety of food products is of utmost importance, and this recall serves as a reminder of the potential risks associated with improperly inspected meat. The USDA and FSIS’s swift action in identifying and addressing the issue demonstrates their commitment to protecting consumers from potential harm. It is crucial for individuals to follow the advisory and dispose of or return the affected products to prevent any potential health risks. By staying informed and taking appropriate measures, consumers can play an active role in safeguarding their well-being.
