Kamar de los Reyes, Actor Known for “One Life to Live” and “Call of Duty: Black Ops II,” Dies at 56
LOS ANGELES — Kamar de los Reyes, a television, movie, and voice actor, passed away in Los Angeles at the age of 56, his family announced. De los Reyes was best known for his roles as a gang member-turned-cop in the soap opera “One Life to Live” and as a villain in the popular video game “Call of Duty: Black Ops II.”
Brief Battle with Cancer
De los Reyes died on Sunday after a brief battle with cancer, according to a statement from Lisa Goldberg, a publicist for de los Reyes’ wife, Sherri Saum.
A Versatile Career
In “One Life to Live,” de los Reyes portrayed Antonio Vega, a former gang member who transformed into a lawyer and then a cop, alongside his wife Sherri Saum. He also played the role of the villain Raul Menendez in the widely acclaimed video game “Call of Duty: Black Ops II.” Additionally, de los Reyes had notable appearances in Fox’s “Sleepy Hollow,” ABC’s “The Rookie,” and CW’s “All American.”
The family statement revealed that at the time of his passing, de los Reyes was filming for “All American” and had recently completed roles in Marvel’s upcoming “Daredevil” series and Hulu’s yet-to-be-released “Washington Black,” starring Sterling K. Brown.
A Passion for Acting
De los Reyes was born in Puerto Rico and raised in Las Vegas. He discovered his love for acting when he moved to Los Angeles in the late ’80s. Some of his early roles include playing Pedro Quinn in the 1994 off-Broadway play “Blade to the Heat” and Ferdinand in director George C. Wolfe’s production of “The Tempest” for Shakespeare in the Park.
On the Big Screen
De los Reyes also made appearances in several films, including Oliver Stone’s “Nixon,” where he portrayed Watergate burglar Eugenio Martinez. He played a secret service agent in “Salt,” alongside Angelina Jolie, and appeared in “The Cell” with Jennifer Lopez.
A Heart for Puerto Rico
“De los Reyes lived in Los Angeles, however, his heart never left Puerto Rico,” the family statement said. The actor was actively involved in the recovery efforts following Hurricane Maria in 2017.
Survived by Wife and Sons
De los Reyes is survived by his wife Sherri Saum and their three sons: Caylen, 26, and twins Michael and John, aged 9.
