Fiery Crash Involving NYPD Cruiser Injures Two Cops and Six Civilians on Staten Island

On Saturday, an NYPD cruiser was involved in a fiery crash on Staten Island, resulting in injuries to two police officers and at least six civilians. The incident occurred around 7:20 p.m. near Hunton Street and Richmond Road when the police car collided with two civilian vehicles before catching fire.

Injuries and Hospitalization

The two police officers were taken to Staten Island Northwell Hospital in stable condition. One officer suffered a dislocated arm, while the other experienced elbow pain. Additionally, six civilians, including four children aged 6, 8, 11, and 14, along with a 34-year-old driver and a 36-year-old passenger, sustained minor injuries and were also taken to the hospital in stable condition.

Investigation and Details

Although initial reports suggested that the NYPD officers were pursuing a vehicle at the time of the crash, the police are still investigating whether criminal activity was involved. Further details regarding the collision have not been released at this time.

Photos from the scene depict the front of the charred and mangled NYPD cruiser, with its front end destroyed and airbags deployed. Additionally, a parked white SUV and a black Ford nearby suffered significant damage to their respective driver’s sides.

Similar Incident

This crash follows another incident just two days prior, where two NYPD officers were hospitalized after a man stole a box truck and led police on a wild chase through Staten Island, causing damage to at least 25 other vehicles. During the pursuit, the stolen vehicle collided with the pursuing cruisers, dragging an NYPD patrol car approximately 40 feet and resulting in minor injuries to the officers. Fortunately, no civilians were harmed in that incident.
