Nashua Man Charged with Kidnapping After Stealing Car with Children Inside

Incident of Car Theft and Kidnapping in Nashua, New Hampshire

In Nashua, New Hampshire, a 42-year-old man named Andrew Colvin has been charged with kidnapping after allegedly stealing a car with two children inside. The incident occurred on Wednesday, prompting a swift response from the Nashua police.

According to witnesses, the car was stolen while it was idling in the parking lot of an apartment complex on Danforth Drive. The children’s mother, who was working as an Uber delivery driver, had left her children in the back seat while she made a delivery at the complex. When she returned, she discovered that her car had been stolen, with her children still inside.

The situation quickly escalated as witnesses reported seeing a man enter the car and drive off. Fortunately, the thief got turned around in the parking lot, giving witnesses an opportunity to intervene and stop him. They pulled him out of the car, ensuring the safety of the children. The witness who helped in the rescue recounted the incident, saying, “I put my shoes on and ran out there… seeing this mother, I was like, ‘We need to help her.’”

The Nashua police were able to locate and apprehend Colvin shortly after he fled the area. It was later revealed that he was already out on bail for a previous prowling incident. Colvin confessed to stealing the car during questioning and claimed that he intended to drop the children off at a nearby gas station.

This incident has understandably caused concern among parents and community members. Nashua police Sgt. John Cinelli expressed his worries, stating, “It’s concerning for any parent out there. It’s probably your worst nightmare. But it’s just a concerning situation because we don’t know what his motives were and what his thoughts were.”

Colvin now faces multiple charges, including two counts of kidnapping, theft by unauthorized taking, and driving after license revocation or suspension. As of Thursday afternoon, he was being held on $1,000 cash bail pending his arraignment in court.

The incident serves as a reminder of the importance of remaining vigilant and taking necessary precautions, especially when children are involved. Parents should take extra care when leaving their children unattended in a vehicle, even for a short period. It is also essential for witnesses and community members to be proactive in assisting those in need, as demonstrated by the quick actions of the witnesses who prevented a potentially dangerous situation from escalating further.

Law enforcement agencies continue to urge the public to report any suspicious activities promptly. By working together and staying alert, communities can help prevent crimes and protect the well-being of their residents, particularly the most vulnerable among us.
