Nancy Pelosi and Top Democrats Speak at Democratic National Convention Amid Speculation Over Her Role in Biden’s Decision to Drop Out

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and other top Democrats will be speaking at the Democratic National Convention on Wednesday night. This comes exactly one month after Pelosi allegedly played a role in Joe Biden’s decision to drop out of the race for re-election. While there has been speculation about Pelosi’s involvement, Biden confirmed that they have not spoken since he exited the race. Pelosi’s actions during the pressure campaign against Biden raised eyebrows, including her appearance on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” where she suggested that Biden’s decision to stay in the race was still uncertain. Several of Pelosi’s allies, such as Representatives Adam Schiff and Zoe Lofgren, joined the chorus of Democrats calling for Biden to step aside. Pelosi defended her actions, stating that sometimes you have to take a punch for the greater good. Pelosi has long been seen as a slick political operative.

During the firestorm over Biden’s candidacy, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries met with Biden and relayed concerns from his caucus to the president. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer also met with Biden and implored him to step aside. Schumer spoke at the convention on Tuesday. Biden, however, has insisted that no one influenced his decision and that no one knew it was coming. Former President Donald Trump took the opportunity to taunt Biden on the anniversary of his decision to drop out, posting a message on Truth Social. Despite these challenges, Biden delivered a fiery swan song speech at the convention on Monday.

In addition to Pelosi, other speakers for Night Three of the DNC include Senators Chris Murphy, Cortez Masto, Amy Klobuchar, and Cory Booker, as well as Maryland Governor Wes Moore, Pennsylvania Governor Josh Shapiro, and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg. Surprisingly, two Republicans, former Trump administration official Olivia Troye and former Georgia Lt. Governor Geoff Duncan, are also set to speak at the convention.
