The issue of protecting agricultural land was also raised by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak, who pledged in August 2022 to safeguard the UK’s best farmland. Sunak emphasized the importance of domestic food production and vowed not to lose significant portions of prime agricultural land to solar farms.

MP Matt Warman expressed concerns about the placement of pylons in Lincolnshire, which would take valuable agricultural land out of production. Welsh farmer Gareth Wyn Jones echoed these concerns, emphasizing the need to protect prime agricultural land for food production. He criticized government policies that prioritize solar panel farms and other renewable energy projects over the opportunity to grow food in the country. Jones suggested installing solar panels on industrial buildings and private households to promote energy self-sufficiency while preserving agricultural land.
