Tragedy struck in Georgia just days before Mother’s Day when a mother was mauled to death by a pack of dogs. The incident occurred as the family, consisting of Courtney Williams and her three children, waited at a bus stop behind the Brooks County Middle School in Quitman. According to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation, the dogs descended on them, resulting in Williams’ untimely demise. Her body was discovered in a nearby yard.
Upon arrival at the scene, deputies encountered several aggressive dogs on the property, as reported by the GBI. Williams’ children were immediately rushed to the hospital due to their injuries. In a brave and selfless act, her son, Kayden, faced down the dogs in an attempt to save his little sister. He suffered numerous lacerations but managed to push his sister out of harm’s way, ultimately saving her life. This act of heroism was shared by Williams’ sister-in-law, Crystal Cox, on Facebook.
Cox also shared graphic images that showcased Kayden’s deep wounds on his arms, legs, and head. The other son rushed into the school for assistance and was fortunate enough to find a man who intervened and pulled the dogs off his brother. This man, described by Cox as “an angel,” promptly rushed the injured children to the hospital. Although Kayden was hurt severely, all three children are now recovering at Cox’s home.
The specific breed of dogs responsible for the attack remains unknown. However, neighbors revealed that they had been complaining about the lack of animal control in the area for some time. Dumping dogs has become a common occurrence throughout the county, leaving residents without any means of assistance. The community expressed its sadness and offered prayers for Williams’ family as they now face celebrating Mother’s Day without their beloved mother.
The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is currently conducting an autopsy to determine the official cause of Courtney Williams’ death. This tragic incident serves as a reminder of the importance of proper animal control and the potential dangers that can arise when it is lacking.
