Mother and 2-year-old daughter share their experience after being shot at Harris County apartment

In a shocking incident that unfolded in Harris County, Texas, a mother and her 2-year-old daughter were shot inside their apartment while the father was meeting a man outside to buy a car. Alondra Ayala, the mother, shared her terrifying experience with ABC13, recounting the harrowing events that took place on that fateful day. The incident has since led to the arrest of Jarrel McWilliams, who has been charged with three counts of aggravated robbery.

On the day of the incident, Ayala was busy frying hot dogs for her family when everything took a turn for the worse. While her daughter’s father was outside meeting the man who promised to sell them a car, Ayala noticed a stranger walking in and out of their apartment. Little did she know that this man would soon become the source of unimaginable terror.

The intruder, having entered through an unlocked door, forcibly grabbed Ayala by her hair and demanded to know where “the stuff” was. With a gun held to her face, Ayala was dragged into the main room where she saw another man. The assailants were relentless in their pursuit of money and a gun, bombarding her with threats and questions. It was during this chaos that Ayala’s daughter, who had been watching television swaddled in blankets, walked into the room and innocently asked what was happening.

Ayala’s heart sank as she struggled to find an answer for her daughter. The situation escalated further when the third man pushed her daughter’s father back into the apartment. A physical altercation ensued between the three men, with Ayala’s daughter’s father bravely fighting to protect his family. In the midst of the struggle, $2400 cash was thrown on the ground, and the assailants made their escape without any money.

Tragically, during the altercation, shots were fired, and Ayala and her daughter were hit. Ayala sustained three bullet wounds to her hands, while her daughter was struck in the elbow. In a desperate bid to escape, the family fled from their apartment, fearing that the attackers would return.

Thankfully, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office swiftly took action, apprehending Jarrel McWilliams in connection to the attack. McWilliams, who was also injured in the incident, has been charged with three counts of aggravated robbery. However, Ayala hopes for justice and that the authorities will take appropriate action. She expressed her deepest fears, stating, “I just hope they’re able to do something about it. I wouldn’t want anyone going through this.”

In a surprising turn of events, initial reports from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office suggested that the incident was a drug deal gone wrong, citing the presence of cash and drug evidence at the scene. However, Ayala strongly refuted these claims, explaining that the marijuana found on the ground was due to one of the suspects rolling it. The court documents also only mention a car sale, not drugs.

The incident has left Ayala traumatized, especially considering the impact it had on her young daughter. She vividly recalls screaming, “Y’all killed my baby!” and feeling like it was the end of the world for her. It serves as a chilling reminder of the dangers that can lurk within our communities and the need for improved safety measures.

As Ayala continues to heal from her physical wounds and recover from the trauma, she hopes that her story will serve as a wake-up call for others. No one should have to endure such a terrifying ordeal, especially when it involves innocent children. It is crucial for law enforcement agencies to thoroughly investigate such incidents and provide support to victims and their families.

The incident has sparked a community-wide discussion about crime and safety in Harris County. Many residents are calling for increased vigilance and police presence to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future. The community must come together to ensure the safety and well-being of its members, particularly the most vulnerable.

While the road to recovery may be long, Alondra Ayala’s resilience and determination to seek justice for her family serve as an inspiration to us all. Her courage in sharing her story sheds light on the urgent need for safer communities and reminds us of the importance of supporting victims during their healing process. Together, we can strive for a future where incidents like these are unheard of, and families can feel secure in their own homes.
