Missing California Dog Located in Michigan after Months

In a heartwarming tale that seems straight out of a Hollywood movie, a missing dog from California has been located in Michigan after several months of separation. The terrier mix named Mishka was found as a stray in Harper Woods, a suburb of Detroit, and was later reunited with her ecstatic owners.

The unbelievable journey began when police in Harper Woods responded to a call about a stray dog. They picked up the friendly terrier mix and immediately contacted the Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society. To their surprise, the society discovered that Mishka had an identity chip implanted in her, containing information about her owners.

Mehrad Houman and his family, who reside in San Diego, had been searching for their beloved pet since she went missing in July. They had plans to travel to Minnesota when the call came in about Mishka’s discovery. Mehrad wasted no time and immediately flew to Michigan to reunite with his furry friend. After a long 10-hour drive, he finally arrived and was able to hold Mishka in his arms once again.

The Grosse Pointe Animal Adoption Society shared the heartwarming reunion on their Facebook page, posting pictures and videos of Mehrad and Mishka embracing each other. They described the story as one that Hollywood would love to tell, capturing the emotional rollercoaster that the Houman family experienced during their months-long search.

Corinne Martin, the director of the animal welfare group, believes that Mishka may have been stolen and subsequently sold before ending up in Michigan. The dog had disappeared from Houman’s workplace, an auto garage, and never returned. Luckily, Mishka was wearing a collar with the family’s phone number, providing hope that she would be found one day.

For Elizabeth Houman, Mehrad’s wife, the reunion with Mishka marked the end of an incredible journey filled with determination and hope. She tirelessly put up over a thousand flyers, even wearing Mishka’s leash while searching for her. Elizabeth expressed her gratitude for finally having Mishka back and expressed her curiosity about how her beloved pet ended up in Michigan.

Upon Mishka’s discovery, she was examined by veterinarian Nancy Pillsbury in Harper Woods. The three-year-old dog was found to be in good health, clean, and well-fed. Dr. Pillsbury administered a rabies shot and cleared Mishka to travel back home to California with her relieved owners. The veterinarian marveled at the care Mishka received during her time away and acknowledged that only the dog knows the true story of how she ended up in Michigan.

The story of Mishka’s incredible journey serves as a reminder of the powerful bond between humans and their pets. It showcases the determination and unwavering love of the Houman family in their quest to find their missing dog. Mishka’s safe return home brings joy not only to her owners but also to animal lovers worldwide who appreciate tales of resilience and reunion.

As for Mishka herself, she may not be able to tell us the full story of her adventure, but her wagging tail and happy reunion with her family speak volumes about the power of hope and the enduring connection between humans and their four-legged companions.
