Colorado Governor Jared Polis used an oversized book to symbolize the Heritage Foundation’s Project 2025, which aims to shrink government and push it to the right. Polis ripped a page from the book and pledged to show it to undecided voters as a demonstration of the potential consequences of a Trump presidency. Other speakers, including Florida Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz, Michigan Attorney General Dana Nessel, and Mississippi Representative Bennie Thompson, addressed topics such as abortion restrictions, LGBTQ+ rights, and the attack on the U.S. Capitol on January 6, 2021.
In response to the convention, Trump criticized it as a “charade” and singled out his predecessor, Barack Obama, for delivering a highly critical speech. The former president accused Obama of being “nasty” in his remarks.
