Four Staff Members of Glover Elementary School Placed on Leave Amid Review of Student Restraint Process

MARBLEHEAD, MASS. – Four staff members of the Glover Elementary School in Marblehead have been placed on paid administrative leave as the district conducts a review of its policies and protocols regarding the student restraint process, according to Interim Superintendent Dr. Theresa B. McGuinness.

Reason for Review

The review was prompted by recent incidents involving the restraint of a general education student at the school. Dr. McGuinness stated that the purpose of the review is to assess when student restraints should be used, evaluate the procedures followed during the process, and examine how restraints are reported at both the district and state level.

Non-Punitive Action

Dr. McGuinness emphasized that placing the four staff members on leave is not a punitive action but a necessary step during the review process. The safety and security of all students and staff members remain the top priority for the district.

“The district will take whatever measures are necessary to ensure that all of our schools are safe and welcoming learning environments for all,” Dr. McGuinness said in a statement.
