Man Identified in Danvers Shooting Incident

Authorities have identified the suspect involved in a shooting incident in Danvers, Massachusetts. The man, Joseph M. Hurley, 62, allegedly shot a woman multiple times and fired at responding police officers. The incident led to a tense SWAT standoff at a trailer park on Monday.

911 Call and Police Response

Police received a 911 call from a woman on Newbury Street around 12 p.m. The woman reported being shot multiple times and sought refuge in a neighbor’s trailer. As officers approached the residence, they were fired upon by the suspect.

Victim’s Condition and Suspect’s Arrest

The victim was quickly transported to Beverly Hospital and later med-flighted to a Boston hospital for further treatment. Approximately two hours later, Joseph M. Hurley was taken into custody. He was then transported to a nearby hospital.

Ongoing Investigation

The Danvers Police Department, Essex County District Attorney’s Office, State Police Detectives assigned to the District Attorney’s Office, and Massachusetts State Police Crime Scene Services are actively investigating the incident.

Charges and Arraignment

Hurley is expected to be arraigned on Tuesday in Salem District Court. He faces charges of armed assault with intent to murder, three counts of assault with a dangerous weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm, and unlawful possession of ammunition.
