Man Arrested After Firing Shots at Firefighters in Mattapan Building

A man has been apprehended by police after allegedly opening fire on firefighters who were responding to a fire at a building in Mattapan on Saturday. The incident unfolded around 11:30 a.m. when firefighters arrived at the scene of a reported structure fire and heard gunshots. As a precautionary measure, a Boston police SWAT unit was called in while crews worked to evacuate the building.

The situation was incredibly tense for those inside the building. One woman expressed her fear, stating, “It was very scary in the moment because I wasn’t really thinking, I just wanted to get out of the house with my kids, that’s all. And now I’m scared to go back in because I want to make sure no one is in my closet.”

After approximately two hours, the man was taken into custody and transported to a hospital due to a leg injury. Mayor Michelle Wu commended the first responders for their professionalism in clearing the building and resolving the situation without any shots being fired. She emphasized the unpredictable and dangerous nature of such incidents, highlighting the readiness and dedication of the city’s first responders.

During the investigation, a firearm was recovered from the scene. However, no further details have been released at this time.
