Man appears before judge following arrest for alleged involvement in 2023 Dorchester shooting – WHDH 7News provides Boston News, Weather, and Sports.

A 25-year-old Boston man, Micha Ennis, appeared in court on Thursday following his arrest in connection with a shooting incident that occurred in Dorchester in 2023. Ennis pleaded not guilty to charges that included five counts of armed assault with intent to murder. The prosecution requested bail to be set at $2 million, a request that was granted by the judge.

The shooting took place on September 17, 2023, near Stratton Street in Dorchester. Ennis, along with another man named Gianni Johnson, allegedly fired shots indiscriminately at a crowd gathered at the Franklin Field housing complex. When the Boston police arrived at the scene, they found multiple victims with gunshot wounds. Three adults and two children were injured but fortunately their injuries were not life-threatening.

However, one of the injured children, a 15-year-old living with autism, suffered extensive injuries after being shot in the head. Prosecutors stated that she has been rendered unable to walk or talk, with minimal chances of further recovery. The severity of her injuries highlights the gravity of this incident.

While Johnson was arrested on October 2, 2023, in Lynn, Ennis remained at large until his recent apprehension on Wednesday. During his arraignment, Ennis chose to stay outside the courtroom’s doorway, hiding his face with a hood and occasionally waving at his family.

According to prosecutors, video footage and photographs shared on social media captured the shooting. Additionally, one of the guns used in the incident was equipped with a device that allowed it to function like a machine gun. However, the defense countered these claims, stating that the prosecution’s accusations were false.

Outside the Suffolk Superior Court, Ennis’ family members expressed their disbelief at the accusations leveled against him. They claimed that the prosecution was spreading lies and expressed shock at the $2 million bail amount, stating that Ennis is not a criminal.

Meanwhile, the assistant district attorney informed 7NEWS that efforts are being made to consolidate Johnson’s case with Ennis’. This suggests that the authorities believe both individuals were involved in the shooting incident.

Ennis is scheduled to appear in court again on June 10, where further developments in the case may unfold. The outcome of this trial will be closely watched by the community as they seek justice for the victims and closure for their families.
