In a recent podcast interview, former NBA teammate JJ Redick revealed his plans to help New York Knicks player Josh Hart improve his 3-point shot during the offseason. Hart has been an impressive triple-double threat for the Knicks, but his shooting from beyond the arc has been lackluster this season.
Hart’s struggles with 3-point shooting have been evident throughout the season, with a 3-for-31 skid in his last eight appearances. However, his former teammate Redick is confident that he can help Hart improve his outside shot. Redick stated on the “Old Man and the Three” podcast, “We’re gonna work on the shot this summer. We’ve already committed to each other.”
The friendship between Hart and Redick extends beyond the court, with the two frequently keeping in touch. Hart expressed his enthusiasm about working with Redick, saying, “At some point in the summer I’ll pull up to the Hamptons. Shoot, get in the gym with him. Drink wine with him. He can bring all the wine. Because he’s rich. And just enjoy.”
Hart has experienced a significant drop in his 3-point shooting efficiency this season. Last year, he connected on an impressive 51.9 percent from long range in 25 appearances with the Knicks. However, this year his percentage has plummeted to 30.4 percent.
Despite his struggles from beyond the arc, Hart has remained an integral part of the Knicks’ lineup. Head coach Tom Thibodeau has repeatedly praised Hart as one of the team’s most valuable players. Hart’s contributions extend beyond scoring, as he has showcased remarkable rebounding abilities for a guard.
Redick commended Hart’s rebounding skills, stating, “Josh Hart, at this size… rebounds outside of his area as well as any guard I’ve seen.” Redick emphasized Hart’s ability to pursue the basketball and secure rebounds in traffic, even when it seems unlikely.
The Knicks have embraced a gritty culture under Thibodeau, and Hart has epitomized that identity. Redick believes that Hart’s embodiment of the team’s gritty culture sets him apart from his teammates. He stated, “I don’t think there’s anybody on this team that has embodied it more than Josh Hart.”
Redick has previous experience working with Knicks guard Quentin Grimes on his outside shot during the offseason. However, Grimes has struggled with his 3-point shooting this season, posting a career-worst percentage of .338. Despite this setback, Redick remains confident in his ability to help Hart overcome his shooting struggles.
