Key Witness Testifies in Karen Read Murder Trial: Updates and Developments

Key witness Brian Higgins took the stand in the Karen Read murder trial on Friday, providing crucial testimony in Norfolk Superior Court. Higgins, an agent for the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, was present at a bar with Read, John O’Keefe, and others on the night of O’Keefe’s death. The next morning, O’Keefe was found dead in a snowbank near the home of Brian and Nicole Albert, where a party had taken place.

Higgins, a friend of Brian Albert, is among the individuals listed by Read’s defense team as potential suspects who could have assaulted O’Keefe. The defense argues that O’Keefe died following a physical altercation inside the Albert home in Canton. On the other hand, prosecutors maintain that Read intentionally ran over O’Keefe with her SUV and abandoned him at the Albert residence.

Throughout the trial, tensions have run high during cross-examinations, particularly with key witnesses like Jennifer McCabe. Defense attorney Alan Jackson has promised “fireworks” once Higgins concludes his direct examination with Assistant District Attorney Adam Lally.

Read, who arrived at court in Dedham on Friday morning, pleaded not guilty to the charges against her. Her defense team has suggested that she is being framed for O’Keefe’s murder.
