Kevin Costner, the renowned actor, may be making a comeback to the hit Paramount series “Yellowstone.” In an interview with “CBS Sunday Morning,” Costner expressed his willingness to return to the show if he likes the story and where it’s going. Costner played the role of rancher John Dutton for four and a half seasons before leaving to work on his movie “Horizon: An American Saga.”
Contrary to speculation, Costner clarified that his departure from “Yellowstone” had nothing to do with his new movie project. He stated that he fulfilled all his contractual obligations with the show. However, in May 2023, news broke that Costner would not be returning for Season 5 of “Yellowstone,” leading to speculation that the show’s end was partly due to his departure. There were reports suggesting that Costner refused to film for more than one week in the second half of Season 5, but his attorney denied these claims.
Costner finally addressed the feud rumors with creator Taylor Sheridan, revealing that he had endured criticism from certain individuals involved with the show. He stated that he prioritized “Yellowstone” and did not initiate any of the conflicts. According to Sheridan, Costner wanted to leave the show to focus on his movie “Horizon,” and they worked out a schedule to accommodate his preferred exit date.
Despite the drama surrounding his departure, Costner has shown interest in rejoining “Yellowstone” before the series concludes production. In an interview with “Entertainment Tonight,” he mentioned his initial plans to make seven seasons of the show but acknowledged that they are currently at five. He expressed hope that circumstances may allow him to return.
The first half of “Yellowstone” Season 5 concluded in January 2023, and the final episodes are currently being filmed. They are scheduled to air in November 2024. Costner’s potential return to “Yellowstone” would undoubtedly excite fans and add an intriguing element to the show’s final season.
