Prominent Hamptons attorney Edward Burke Jr. has released a statement in defense of Justin Timberlake after the pop star was arrested on DWI charges in the Hamptons. Burke expressed his intention to vigorously defend Timberlake against the allegations and stated that he is currently awaiting full discovery from the DA’s office.
Timberlake’s arrest occurred in Sag Harbor, NY, shortly after midnight on Tuesday. The singer was seen swerving in his BMW after leaving a dinner. He was subsequently charged with one count of driving while intoxicated, as well as two other traffic violations.
Photographs of Timberlake leaving the Sag Harbor Village Police Department were captured on Tuesday morning. Edward Burke Jr., known for representing high-profile clients such as Matt Lauer, Lizzie Grubman, and Jason Kidd, accompanied Timberlake during this time.
Interestingly, Burke’s office is located near where the incident took place. Timberlake was arraigned and released from custody on his own recognizance. His next court date is scheduled for July 26, but he will not be required to attend the procedural hearing.
While Timberlake is currently on tour and set to perform at NYC’s Madison Square Garden on June 25 and 26, his wife, Jessica Biel, is busy filming a movie in the Big Apple. Biel was spotted looking stoic following her husband’s arrest.
According to a source, Timberlake was pulled over after having dinner with friends at Sag Harbor’s historic American Hotel. The source revealed that there were police stationed outside the hotel. Timberlake, who was driving a gray 2025 BMW vehicle, failed a field sobriety test and repeatedly refused to take a breathalyzer test. The arresting officer was reportedly unaware of Timberlake’s celebrity status.
Timberlake and Biel have been married since October 2012 and have two sons together. A criminal complaint obtained by Page Six states that Timberlake claimed to have consumed only one martini at the hotel before following his friends home. However, police noticed bloodshot and glassy eyes, as well as a strong odor of alcohol on his breath during the investigation.
Despite refusing the tests, Timberlake was described as a gentleman during the encounter. It is worth noting that refusing these tests is within his rights. As the case develops, Timberlake will rely on the defense provided by Edward Burke Jr. to navigate the legal process.
