In the heart of Houston, Texas, Strake Jesuit College Preparatory senior Johnny Hebert embodies the essence of a well-rounded student-athlete, seamlessly blending academic excellence with athletic prowess. With a commendable academic record of all A’s and a few B’s, Hebert stands out not just for his grades but for his passion for learning. “I always loved the English classes here. And also I’ve always kind of been the math guy,” he reflects, showcasing his diverse interests that will undoubtedly serve him well in future pursuits.
Yet, it’s on the football field where Hebert truly shines. His remarkable abilities have garnered attention, having amassed 3,542 rushing yards in 2024— the highest in Texas and the second most nationwide. This year, he continues to impress with 1,933 yards and 24 touchdowns in just seven games. His success can be attributed to his upbringing, filled with spirited competition among his five brothers. “Having a bunch of siblings, you kinda learn pretty quickly that it’s not all about you,” he explains, highlighting the selflessness that is integral to his gameplay. Hebert’s philosophy on football is clear: “If you’re playing the game just to put up good stats, you’re not playing the right sport… it’s a team sport.” This mindset not only fosters camaraderie among teammates but also enhances the overall performance of the squad.
As he prepares for the next chapter of his life, Johnny has made the significant decision to commit to the University of Houston, a choice he embraces wholeheartedly. “It really is everything I hoped and even more,” he shares, reflecting on his recent official visit. His excitement is palpable, particularly regarding the strong bond he has formed with running backs Coach Jordy Joseph. “The relationship he’s taken the time to build with me has meant so much to me,” Hebert states, likening the coach to a family member. Hebert attributes much of the program’s appeal to its culture. “I think Coach Fitz has done an unbelievable job building that at UH, and I can’t wait to be a part of it,” he expresses, signaling his eagerness to contribute to a team that values both individual talent and collective effort.
