Before filing for divorce, Cope shared a cryptic message on her Instagram account in June. The message spoke about “loss” and “freedom,” suggesting that not everything you lose is a loss. It can also be a second chance or a detachment that was long-needed. The passage seemed to hint at the issues in their relationship.
In court documents obtained by Page Six, Cope listed June as the month of their separation. This aligns with the timing of her cryptic message. It’s possible that she was already contemplating divorce at that point.
Cope officially filed for divorce on Wednesday, citing “irreconcilable differences” as the reason for their split. In her filing, she waived any rights to spousal support but requested sole physical custody of their 1-year-old daughter, Dylan Rose. Cope also asked that Lawrence be allowed visitation only at her discretion. She made it clear that she opposes Lawrence taking their daughter for extended periods of time until she is old enough to consent.
The court documents state that once Dylan is three years old or older, Lawrence will have the option to take her for two nights in her home location if he’s not working and can facilitate the visitation. However, he won’t be able to take her for long, extended periods of time until she is old enough to specifically ask for the visitation time and all parties agree and are able to facilitate it. Additionally, Dylan is not to be in the presence of any non-family members while with Lawrence unless agreed upon by Cope.
Lawrence previously admitted that their marriage was “very unexpected.” The couple got married in 2021 after meeting on the set of the Lifetime movie “My Husband’s Secret Brother.” Lawrence expressed his excitement about their future together on Instagram, but later admitted to People magazine that their relationship was out of the ordinary for him. He had never been in a serious relationship with someone he worked with before.
