Jets Coach Robert Saleh Provides Injury Updates on Defensive Starters Ahead of Patriots Game

Injury Concerns for Jets Defensive Starters Ahead of Patriots Game

As the New York Jets prepare for their home game against the Patriots on Thursday night, head coach Robert Saleh provided an update on the status of injured defensive starters C.J. Mosley and D.J. Reed. Both players are currently listed as questionable for the upcoming game.

Mosley, who left Sunday’s game against the Titans in the first half with a sprained right big toe, underwent X-rays that revealed no breaks in the toe. Speaking to reporters after practice, Mosley expressed optimism about his recovery, stating that it’s now a matter of managing the pain. He emphasized that the more he can push off his injured toe, the more confident he will be to return to the field.

Reed, on the other hand, missed the Titans game due to a knee injury. Saleh did not provide specific details about the severity of Reed’s injury but mentioned that he is progressing well. The cornerback’s availability for the Patriots game remains uncertain.

In addition to Mosley and Reed, nickel back Michael Carter is also dealing with an ankle injury. Saleh assured that Carter’s injury is manageable and that he will be fine. However, it is expected to be an ongoing issue that may require intermittent rest.

If Mosley is unable to play, Saleh stated that Jamien Sherwood would step in as the primary play-caller on the defense. He expressed full confidence in Sherwood’s ability to fill the role, praising his development as a professional football player. Saleh highlighted Sherwood’s elite mental speed and communication skills, assuring that he is not worried about his performance on the field.

While injury concerns loom over the Jets’ defensive lineup, the team remains focused on their upcoming matchup against the Patriots. The status of Mosley, Reed, and Carter will likely be determined closer to game day, with potential game day workouts to assess their readiness. Coach Saleh and the Jets are hopeful that their injured starters will recover in time to contribute to the team’s efforts to secure a victory.

In unrelated news, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers made a lighthearted comment during his appearance on “The Pat McAfee Show.” He jokingly declared Creed as “one of the greatest rock bands of all-time,” adding a touch of levity to his interview.
