JetBlue Passenger Files Lawsuit After Suffering “Life-Changing” Injuries Due to Brakes Failure

Passenger Sues JetBlue for “Life-Changing” Injuries as Flight’s Brakes Fail

A JetBlue passenger, Jacqueline Crowley, has filed a lawsuit against the airline, claiming that she suffered “life-changing” injuries when the brakes on the aircraft failed during landing. The incident occurred on May 25, 2022, as JetBlue Flight 267 arrived in Charleston, SC, from Boston’s Logan International Airport. According to Crowley, the plane came to an extremely abrupt stop at a high rate of speed, causing her to sustain neck and back injuries. The pilot had informed passengers via the public address system that the brakes had failed and the emergency brakes had kicked in.

In court papers filed in Brooklyn Federal Court, Crowley stated that she was injured almost immediately after the plane touched down. She suffered from an acute concussion and chronic post-concussion syndrome as a result of the incident. These injuries have had a significant impact on her life, rendering her unable to work. Two years later, she continues to suffer from chronic ringing in her ears, which she attributes to the impact of the abrupt stop.

Crowley, who is seeking unspecified damages, accused JetBlue of negligence. Her attorney, Erin Applebaum, explained that the head injury completely upended her life and emphasized the long-lasting effects. Unfortunately, Crowley has recently been diagnosed with Stage 4 colon cancer, further compounding her health issues.

The passenger also expressed concern for the safety of other passengers, particularly a young couple with a baby girl who were seated a few rows ahead of her. She criticized the airline for not taking the physical impact on passengers’ brains seriously and called attention to the potential harm caused to innocent passengers, especially children.

JetBlue has not responded to requests for comment on the matter.

This incident highlights the importance of airline safety and the potential consequences of equipment failures during flights. Passengers place their trust in airlines to prioritize their well-being, both physically and mentally. When incidents like this occur, it is crucial for airlines to thoroughly investigate the cause and take appropriate measures to prevent similar incidents in the future. Passenger safety should always be the top priority for airlines, and negligence in this regard can lead to severe consequences, as seen in Jacqueline Crowley’s case.
