Israeli Troops Withdraw from Shifa Hospital: A Devastating Aftermath
In a shocking turn of events, Israeli troops have withdrawn from Gaza’s main hospital, Shifa Hospital, after a two-week raid. Palestinian residents who returned to the area were met with a scene of utter destruction. Bodies were found both inside and outside of the facility, leaving the community traumatized and devastated. Some patients had been transferred to the nearby Ahli Hospital. The devastating impact of this raid is further evident as army bulldozers plowed over a makeshift cemetery within the hospital compound. The destruction is beyond words, with Yahia stating, “The situation is indescribable. The occupation destroyed all sense of life here.”
This is not the first time that Israeli troops have targeted hospitals in Gaza. Israel has accused Hamas of using these medical facilities for military purposes. Critics argue that such actions recklessly endanger civilians and exacerbate an already overwhelmed health sector dealing with the consequences of war.
In a previous raid on Shifa Hospital in November, the Israeli military claimed to have uncovered an elaborate command and control center beneath the compound. They revealed a tunnel running beneath the hospital that led to a few rooms. These allegations against Hamas further contribute to the tensions between Israel and Palestine.
The war between Israel and Hamas-led terrorists began on October 7, when the terrorists stormed into southern Israel, resulting in the deaths of over 1,200 people, mostly civilians, and the taking of approximately 250 hostages. In response, Israel launched an extensive offensive involving airstrikes, ground operations, and naval attacks. The consequences have been severe, with over 32,000 Palestinians killed, most of the territory’s population displaced, and a third of its residents facing the threat of famine.
