The Trail: A Mysterious True Crime Documentary in Starved Rock, Illinois
A TikTok user named @tmi_7, also known as Mr. Movie, has sparked excitement among true crime enthusiasts with his claim about a new documentary called The Trail available on Hulu. This documentary supposedly delves into a mysterious case that took place in Starved Rock, Illinois, just outside of Chicago.
In the video, Mr. Movie explains, “A few kids went down this trail and they disappeared. And when the local authorities went looking for them, they disappeared. Fourteen people went missing down this trail before they realized something was up and blocked it off.”
According to Mr. Movie, the investigation into the case becomes increasingly strange. They discovered numerous trees covered in trail cams around the site, which opened up new avenues for investigation.
Is The Trail a Real True Crime Documentary? Where Can I Watch It?
Unfortunately, if you’re eager to watch The Trail, we have some disappointing news. The documentary is not real. Mr. Movie, the TikTok user who shared the video, identifies himself as a “Parody Movie Critic” in his bio. Most of the movie suggestions he posts on his page are fictional.
While Starved Rock is a real location in Illinois, there were no 14 missing people or trees covered in trail cams found there. However, in the 1960s, three women were murdered in the area. Their deaths were later explored in the 2021 docuseries The Murders at Starved Rock. Keep reading to find out where you can watch it.
Where to Watch The Murders at Starved Rock
In 2021, HBO released a three-part docuseries titled The Murders at Starved Rock, which is currently available for streaming on Max. This series, produced by Mark Wahlberg, delves into the brutal murders of Lillian Oetting, Frances Murphy, and Mildred Linquist in 1960. Although Chester Otto Weger was convicted of the murders the following year, he has maintained his innocence. In 2020, Weger was released on parole after serving nearly 60 years in prison.
