Utility crews are working diligently to make repairs following reports of multiple manhole explosions in Boston’s Fenway-Kenmore neighborhood. Witnesses described the scene as chaotic, with debris scattered on the road and smoke billowing out from underground. The Boston Police Department responded to the intersection of St. Stephen Street and Opera Place, where they confirmed an apparent manhole explosion and diverted traffic during the late morning hours.
One witness recounted hearing a loud boom in the morning, followed by dirt being flung onto her window. Shortly after, another explosion occurred. A friend later informed her that a third explosion had taken place as well.
By 12:30 p.m., several Eversource crews were on site, working to address the situation. Fire suppressant foam could still be seen on the ground. At this time, authorities have not provided any information regarding injuries or the extent of the damage caused by the explosions.
