Investigation Launched into Death of South Carolina Pastor’s Wife

Federal authorities have been called in to investigate the death of Mica Miller, the wife of a South Carolina pastor, who local officials initially ruled as a suicide. The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office has requested assistance from the US Attorney’s Office for South Carolina and the FBI to delve deeper into the circumstances surrounding Miller’s death.

Mica Miller died on April 27 from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, according to authorities. However, questions have arisen regarding her troubled relationship with her estranged husband, John Paul Miller. The sheriff’s office revealed that Mica had contacted a dispatcher, expressing her intention to take her own life. She was also observed purchasing a gun prior to her death.

The law enforcement agency has emphasized that John Paul Miller, aged 44, was not involved in Mica’s death. Just days before she died, Mica had served him with divorce papers. Despite this, allegations of abuse have been made against John Paul by Mica’s loved ones. In an email obtained by NewsNation, the pastor apologized to Mica for posting a topless photo of her online.

The sheriff’s office has been in contact with the US Attorney’s Office and the FBI since the early stages of the investigation. Their decision to involve federal authorities is based on the information gathered thus far and jurisdictional considerations. However, no further details have been released at this time.

In an affidavit sent to her lawyer several days after receiving the apology note, Mica detailed the alleged abuse she had endured throughout her marriage. This affidavit raises concerns and further complicates the investigation into her death.
